On this episode of the broadcast Ryan addresses current events and a common phrase known as YOLO, something millennials have coined as an excuse to waste every opportunity in life. It has been promoted through adverting and marketing as the FOMO, fear of missing out. The argument typically centers around saving money for the “future” or spending money on “experiences” right now.
A more philosophical analysis of this mantra, along with those such as “I’m going to die anyway,” speaks to a lack of self respect, preservation and perspective.
Some may say “You Only Live Once,” but do you? If you do, why numb yourself to this one opportunity that we call life? Why associate happiness and experience, time and opportunity with money? If you already experienced something, try something new rathe than repeating the same lifestyle choices in an addictive cycle.
Which path do you take when you presented with one of luxury and another of hardship? This is the question of the Pythagorean Y.
