Ancient depiction of the Roman Saturn or the Greek Cronos depict this ‘Father Time’ eating his own children. The profane (uninitiated ignorant) see this as a literal, horrific act and therefore see this energetic planetary representation as ‘evil’ or the ‘D’evil. Those enlightened see this is not the case and, in fact, ‘Father Time’, is a necessary evil at worst. When Saturn (god of the material world and the constructs to time) is depicted eating his children (humans) it represents that within each of us born into illusory existence is also planted the very seed of destruction.
Ancient initiatory rites, ceremonies, rituals, etc., were aimed at shaping an initiates so they perceived the world differently. Part of the process of initiation included a ‘symbolic’ sacrifice of animal or self, both of which respect the animal nature of man or the material nature of man. These two ‘natures’ must be sacrificed on the alter of self realization so that we may conquer death! By conquering death is meant to be understood that material reality is illusion and we only are born when we die – there is no death!
